Spanish fest awards Iranian artist’s ‘Panacea’

Iranian artist’s design wins best prize at Jumpthegap Int’l design competition in Spain

Iranian artist’s design of a special bathtub titled ‘Panacea’ has grabbed the best art piece award at the 7th Jumpthegap international design competition in Spain.

The €10,000 cash prize went to Mohammadreza Shahmohammadi’s work at the event, held annually by Roca, a major Spanish producer of sanitary products.

The contest recognizes the most innovative and sustainable projects for the bathroom of the future.

“Panacea” provides solutions to overuse of water, the possibility of a child’s drowning in a bathtub, and occupying extra space, which is not in harmony with the contemporary lifestyle.

Second prize went to “Sanctuary” by Bodin Hon & Dilara Kan from Hong Kong and “WCircle” by Charbel El Tawil from Lebanon was ranked third.

The London-based architect Patrik Schumacher, director of Zaha Hadid Architects, presided over the jury in the 2017 edition of the event.

Jumpthegap has been held annually by Roca, in collaboration with the Barcelona Design Center since 2004.
